Brief on Poland: Tusk: “Poland may undo decades of hard work…”

The Polish charm offensive continues today in Strasbourg with Beata Szydlo, the prime minister, due to debate with the European Parliament on the controversial media and judicial measures her Law and Justice party has recently passed.

Yesterday, it was Polish President Andrzej Duda’s turn, meeting in Brussels with Donald Tusk, the former Polish prime minister who now heads the European Council. Unlike some government ministers, who have angrily denounced Brussels for its decision to review the new Polish laws, Mr Duda struck a subdued tone. But Mr Tusk was tough on Warsaw, warning it could undo decades of hard work that has brought Poland back to the top tier of international affairs.
